Ammunition for Excise

T'PURAMThe Excise Department will be getting 25,000 bullets for its revolvers and pistols following intervention by Defence Minister A.K. Antony.
Excise Minister K. Babu said here on Tuesday that he had written to Mr. Antony after finding that the pistols and revolvers in the department were remaining unused for want of ammunition. Mr. Antony directed the ammunition factory under the Defence Ministry in Pune to supply the needed bullets.

The bullets arriving from Pune would be used for giving training to excise officials at the Excise Academy in Thrissur and also for enforcement purposes.

He recalled that the decision to purchase revolvers was taken in 1996 as part of modernisation of the excise force. As per sanction given in 2009, the department had bought 110 pistols and 101 revolvers from the gun and shell factory in Kolkata.
