Kozhikode twin blast case: Triple life term for Nazir

Thadiyantavida Nazir, the first accused in Kozhikode twin blast case was sentenced a triple life imprisonment by the Ernakulam NIA court here on Friday. The fourth accused, Shafaz was sentenced a double life imprisonment. The special NIA court on Thursday found Thadiyandevida Nazir and Shafaz accused in the Kozhikode twin blasts case guilty. The quantum of punishment was announced on Friday. Judge S Vijaykumar pronounced the quantum of punishment. Naseer is the prime accused and Shafas the fourth.The court also slapped a fine of Rs 100, 000 on each of them.


The other accused in the case Yusuf and Halim were let off by the court for want of evidence


According to NIA's chargesheet Thadiyantavide Nazeer was the chief conspirator and executor of the blasts, one at the KSRTC bus station in Kozhikode and another at the moffusil bus-stand.


Seven persons were named as accused. The first accused was Thadiyandevida Nazir. The second to seventh accused in the case respectively were Muhammad Azhar, Abdul Halim, Shafaz alias Shamsuddin, Shammi Feroze, KP Yusuf and Aboobacker Yusuf alias Chettippady Yusuf.


The blasts case was the first of the six cases that the NIA had taken over in Kerala.
