Merchiston deal: Savy Mano Mathew named second accused

Wednesday, August 24, 2011: IG Padmakumar has submitted the first level report of the Merchiston land deal case to the court and has named Savy Mano Mathew as the second accused.
The report states that Savy had tried to sell the land to ISRO by concealing facts about the cases pending on the land and the condition of the land. Savy had knowledge of the facts which were also mentioned in the deal papers when Savy purchased the land.

The allegation was that Savy sold 81.5 acres of ecologically fragile land to ISRO in 2007 violating rules. Forest department pointed out that land is an ecologically fragile category and is a reserve forest. With this the land deal became a row.
The government opted for a reprobe following a petition filed by the then Minister Binoy Viswam questioning the move to write off the case citing absence of evidence as per the application given by Sankumukhan assistant police commissioner.
