No need to take advice on democracy: Chandy

Wednesday, August 17, 2011: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that he was not as helpless as to take democratic lessons from CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan who had demanded that he step down owning moral responsibility in the palmolein oil import case after a court ordered a probe into his role in the deal.
“No Congressman, including myself, needs to take lessons on democratic decorum from the CPI-M secretary,” he told reporters after a cabinet meeting. The government would act in a democratic manner in pursuing the case, he said.
He said out of the 110 programmes announced by the UDF government which was to be implemented within 100 days, 30 schemes had achieved target, 54 were in progress and in 26 schemes, further progress was needed.
These schemes would be evaluated before August 31 and complete success would be ensured. The three per cent government jobs reserved for physically disabled persons would be ensured and 1,158 vacancies in different departments filled soon.
A meeting of chiefs of drug companies would be convened soon to take steps to regulate the price lists of medicines being sold in the state, Chandy said.
