Prohibitory orders imposed in Kuttiyadi, surrounding areas

KOZHIKODE: The administration today imposed prohibitory orders for 15 days in politically sensitive Vadakara, Nadapuram, Kuttiyadi and Perambra police circles in Kozhikode following clashes between two groups of people at Kuttiyadi and surrounding areas last night.

Kozhikode District Collector P B Salim issued the orders with effect from 1100 hrs under Kerala Police Act 75, 78 and 79 banning procession, public meet, assembly of more than five people, carrying deadly weapons, during the period.


Tension prevailed in Kuttiyadi and its surrounding localities here following clashes between two groups of people after an unidentified person attempted to breach a 'Sobha Yatra' taken out in connection with the Sree Krishna Janmashtami (Birth day procession of Lord Krishna) last.


Many persons, who sustained injuries in the clashes, are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the district, police said.

The Hindi Aikyavedi observed a hartal in Kuttiyadi, Thottilppalam, Kayakkodi, Kavilampara, Maruthonkara, Velam and Changaroth in the district today in protest against the violence
