Restricted holiday on birthday of Mannath Padmanabhan

Thursday, September 7, 2011: Congress-led UDF Government in Kerala had decided to declare as ‘restricted holiday’ the birth day of Mannath Padmanabhan, noted social reformer and founder of Nair Service Society (NSS).
Announcing the decision after a cabinet meeting here, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that NSS had urged the government to announce a public holiday on January 2, the birth day of Padmanabhan. Since the number of public holidays were fixed, the government decided to give restricted holiday on that day, Chandy said.

NSS is the social organisation of the Nair community, one of the major forward class communities in the state.
