‘Library of America’ presented to Kerala University

Monday, December 12, 2011: US Consul General Jennifer McIntyre presented the “Library of America” book collection to Prof. A Jayakrishnan, Vice Chancellor, University of Kerala on Monday, December 12, 2011.
The “Library of America” book collection consists of 240 influential works of eminent American novelists, poets, political thinkers, intellectuals and scholars from the past three centuries, including Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, Henry David Thoreau, John Updike, and Harriet Beecher Stowe. The book collection is part of the U.S. Government’s ongoing engagement with the academic community of India to foster discussions on the U.S. and topics of mutual interest to the U.S. and India. The collection is one of only ten presented countrywide, and the only collection presented in South India. The selection of the University of Kerala reflects the high quality and standing of this institution both in Kerala and across the region. The U.S. Consulate Chennai hopes that this collection will be beneficial to students, teachers and scholars of American Studies.
