Pentavalent vaccine introduced across State

Wednesday, December 14, 2011: The pentavalent vaccine has been introduced in Kerala as part of the routine immunisation programme on Wednesday.
Infants under 14 months will be given pentavalent vaccine shots. The new vaccine will protect kids from diphtheria, whooping cough, hepatitis-B, haemophilus influenza-type B, pneumonia and meningitis in one shot.
The new vaccine is given in three doses, when the children are six weeks, 10 weeks and 14 weeks old. It is perceived that the one shot will help bring down the number of immunization injections and protect them.
