Five-metre-long iron rod removed from man’s face


KOCHI: A team of doctors of KIMS hospital  successfully removed a five-metre-long iron rod which pierced the face of Mohammadali, a wood merchant. Hospital sources said the patient was out of danger. The incident occurred when Mohammadali was cutting wood near the Thrikkakara NSS hall. A branch of a tree fell on an iron rod, which bounced off the ground and hit his face.
Soon after the incident, the ‘Doctor on Spot’ of KIMS hospital was called, who gave him the first aid and then shifted him to the hospital. The doctors said they could save Mohammadali as he was brought to the hospital at the earliest. They also said the rod had pierced his skull nearly five inches deep and was just one centimetre away from his spinal cord.
The rod was removed by a team of doctors including neurosurgeon Dr Rajesh Nair, general surgeon Dr Shibu Mon and orthosurgeon Dr Bibu George.
