BSNL official files for anticipatory bail

KOCHI: A BSNL official, against whom police had recently registered a case in connection with leakage of phone call details of an officer probing the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan, Tuesday, moved Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail.

The application was moved by Sanal Kumar, Joint Accounts officer, customer care unit of BSNL Thiruvananthapuram, apprehending arrest in the case.

Justice N.K. Balakrishnan posted the petition to July 25 for hearing the government.

Police had on July 15 registered a case against some BSNL officials and CPI (M) mouthpiece 'Desabhimani' following the leakage of mobile phone call details of SIT Deputy Superintendent of Police Jossy Cherian.
A case under Sections 70(3), 43 A, 66A1 and 2 of the Information Act had been registered.

Police began a probe after a newspaper report that the officer had misused his official mobile phone by talking to various mediapersons over 3,000 times since the murder for allegedly hatching reports against the CPI (M).

Chandrasekharan, a former CPI-M leader from the party stronghold of Onchiyam in Kozhikode district, was killed at Vallikkad near Vatakara on May 4. He was expelled a few years ago after falling out with the CPI-M leadership and later floated the Revolutionary Marxist Party.

His murder triggered a political storm in the state with Congress and BJP pointing fingers at CPI (M). Several CPI (M) workers have been arrested in connection with the case.
