Man bitten by stray dogs in Kumily

IDUKKI: An old man sleeping in front of a closed shop on Sunday night was severely bitten by a pack of stray dogs at Kumily in Idukki district. The man identified as Raju Thevar from Gudalur in Tamil Nadu was seriously injured.


His nose was completely bitten off. There are partial injuries in his ear. The dogs also bit his lips. He was rescued by police team who were on patrol. He was taken to a private hospital in Kumily, but he was denied medical treatment. Later, police pressed hospital authorities for providing him treatment.


Though he was then referred to Kottyam Medical College Hospital, the unavailability of ambulance made the police admit him to the primary health centre in Kumily. At last, media persons who arrived there intervened and he was taken to Kottayam Medical College. He has many stiches on his face.
