One held for moral policing

KANNUR: Police arrested one man in connection with attacking against an auto driver at Thalassery fish market by a four-member gang. According to police, A K Navas (34) of Kayath Road near Thalassery, who is a salesman in the local fish market, was arrested. Police registered cases under section 308, 341, 153-A, 323 and 324 of IPC and was produced before the Thalassery JFCM-1 in the evening. Also, the search is on to nab the remaining accused, police said. Yesterday, a four-member gang attacked A Prajeesh (31), an auto driver of Chirakuni, in a fish market along with a 35-year-old woman from another community and her 15-year-old daughter of Chirakuni at late evening.

The family was on their way back from the Malabar Cancer centre, where the woman's daughter is undergoing treatment for blood cancer. The family regularly used the autorickshaw of Prajeesh to visit hospital, and also Prajeesh had earlier given blood to the girl. Police said the so-called moral police took this relationship in a negative way, which led to the attack. Since nobody prevented the attack in the market, the woman and her daughter themselves went to the police following which they registered a case
