Two held in dowry death case

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vizhinjam police arrested a 27-year-old man and his 50-year-old mother in connection with the suspicious death of his wife. Circle Inspector, Vizhinjam, K. Stuart Keeler, identified the suspects as Jose and Varitha. He said they were arrested in connection with the unnatural death of Jose’s wife, Hyzel.  Local residents reported that they had seen Jose and his mother take an unconscious Hyzel to a nearby hospital in a private case on July 5. The same day, they had heard the couple quarrelling in their house. Forensic doctors, who conducted the post-mortem examination on Hyzel’s body, could not so far confirm whether the woman had committed suicide by hanging or was strangulated.  Keeler said the police were waiting for the final forensic opinion in the case. The accused were produced before the court on the charge of “dowry death” under section 304 (b) of the Indian Penal Code. The court remanded them to judicial custody for a period of 14 days.
