10 % rise in bonus recommended for government employees


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Finance Department on Friday recommended the state government to make a 10 % increase in the bonus for government employees and teachers this year.

The bonus disbursed last year was Rs 2900. Once the increase is brought into effect, the employees will get Rs. 3200. The Department has also recommended for a hike of Rs. 250 in festival allowance, which raises the amount from Rs. 1750 to Rs. 2000.

The recommendations have been submitted for consideration in the next cabinet meeting to be convened on Tuesday.

The number of employees eligible for attaining bonus is 1.25 lakh. When the 10 % increase is implemented, the state government has to bear an additional debt of Rs. 120 crores. The amount bore by the government last year was Rs. 110 crore.

The employees will be getting an advance of Rs. 7500 which should be returned in five terms. The pensioners would get Rs. 600 as festival allowance with the addition of Rs. 100.

Both salary and pension should be disbursed this month itself. About Rs. 1400 crore is needed to disburse salary.
