Comrades give Rs 19 lakh to TP Chandrasekharan’s kin


Defying party orders, hundreds of CPM workers gathered at slain RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan’s Onchiyam residence and handed over a fund of Rs 19 lakh to his widow K K Rema and son Abhinand, on Sunday.


These party men, who were the slain leader’s colleagues and friends from his SFI, DYFI and CPM days, organised the collective, under the banner TP memorial committee.


Many social and cultural leaders, including activists C R Neelakandan, K Ajitha, N Prabhakaran, N Sasidharan, S Sithara, V S Anilkumar, writers Kalpetta Narayanan, K C Umesh Babu, M A Rahman, V R Sudheesh, Shihabudheen Poithumkadavu, U K Kumaran, Veerankutty, Sivadas Purameri, Civic Chandran, K P Kunhamu, painter Babu Joseph, Sreeni Edacheri also joined the gathering.


Former SFI state committee member and CPM local committee member from Kozhikode A Mohammed Salim handed over the receipt of Rs 9.5 lakh, cleared loan amount with SBT Vadakara Branch, to Rema.


A cheque of the remaining amount was also handed over to her.


Ten artists completed paintings on ‘politics of killing’ at the venue.


Ignoring the CPM leadership directive to not raise funds, these friends of Chandrasekharan had decided to raise `5 lakh to be given to his family, to overcome the debts incurred in connection with the construction of the new house. But the initiative became such a success that the collection crossed Rs 19 lakh.
