CPI (M) demands spl package for Pazhassi Dam victims

KANNUR: CPI (M) state leader M V Jayarajan demanded a special package for the people who have lost property at Iritty and nearby areas due to the failure of irrigation officials to open the shutters of Pazhassi Reservoir on August 6 last. Addressing a press conference at district committee office after visiting Iritty and Pazhassi dam along with the district leaders, Jayarajan demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the failure of officials to open the 9 shutters on time.

Action must be taken against responsible persons as a measure to prevent this type of laxity of duty in future at Pazhassi Dam. Stating that about 450 people were residing in rehabilitation camps with lack of basic facilities, he said government should immediately make arrangements for providing basic facilities to the affected people.
