Four held in Paravoor hacking case

The police on Wednesday took four persons into custody for hacking a hotel owner while he was returning home from a mosque at Vaniyakkad, near Vedimara.

The arrested are Anas, 20, Tahir, 32, Manaf, 25, and Sahir, 45. The police officials said that these persons were not among the assailants who attacked Abdul Nazar, but they were part of the gang which plotted the attack.

The police also confirmed that several activists of the Popular Front of India are involved in the case.

“The gang conspired to kill Nazar as he was recently elected to the mosque committee. He was strongly against the working of the gang. They attacked him when he was returning home from the mosque in the morning. One of the persons on the pretext of asking him directions stopped his scooter, while the others hacked him with swords and iron rods. Nazar said that his relatives Shihab and Ayoob were behind the incident. Both are at large, and we are searching for them,” the police official said.

Nazar’s condition is improving. The persons under police custody are being interrogated by a police team led by North Parvoor Crecle Inspector Abdul Salam.
