Haridath case: Crime Branch seeks narco test on CBI officials

Zeroing in on two CBI officials - S Unnikrishnan Nair and K K Rajan - in the Haridath suicide case, the Crime Branch (CB) has sought consent from the duo to conduct narco analysis and polygraph tests on them. The officials received the notice from the Crime Branch SP K J Simon on July 31.

Counsel for the officials Pirappancode V S Sudheer alleged that the move is to falsely implicate the officials in the case.

“The Supreme Court had earlier held that narco analysis tests would be illegal if carried out without the consent of the accused. The court even added that forcing a person to undergo such methods of investigation is a violation of the legal procedure,” he said.

Five months after the death of Haridath, the CB had questioned two officials whose names were mentioned in the suicide note of Haridath, for more than 5 hours on July 30 and 31. The two officials were transferred to  Kolkata and Guwahati. They are also under suspension.

Meanwhile, the probe team had searched the residences of the officials and seized computer hard discs and personal diaries. The CBI officials said that the Crime Branch had been repeatedly questioning them about the Sampath Case, the investigation of which was carried out by them with the late Haridath.

“They strongly resisted the attempt of the probe team to elicit information from them concerning the Sampath case. They also requested to confine the probe to the Haridath suicide case. However, the CB has been continuously questioning them regarding the  investigation of the Sampath case,” sources said.

The officials were directed to give their answers to a questionnaire prepared by the CB.

The officials said that they were not in the investigation of Sampath case from September, 2011 onwards, till the death of Haridath.

The CBI officials denied allegations against them. They further said that Haridath was under the supervision of the two top CBI officers while the investigation into the Sampath case was going on.
