Malayalam Language Day observed

Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram observed  ‘Chingam 1’ as Malayalam Language day.    Inaugurating the programme Ezhumattoor Rajaraja Varma said here that, though the call for setting up an institution for Malayalam had been in the air for a long time, nothing had materialised yet.

 He said there was no meaning in dividing the Indian languages as classical and ordinary.   “The declaration of a language as classical would fetch the government `100 crore. But what is more important is how we honour our legacies,” he said.  

D Vinayachandran who delivered the keynote address said that Malayalam language had been able to retain the complexities, dreams and niceties of the language which most of the other languages were incapable of, these days. He said that focus should be given to teaching the children their mother tongue in their childhood itself.

Parallel cultural organisations and libraries should take up this mission too, he said. 

C Radhakrishnan delivered the Language Day message.  Poet P Narayana Kurup presided over the function. Vimala Menon and M M Unnikrishnan spoke.
