No rift within BJP Kerala unit, says Muraleedharan

BJP state president V Muraleedharan on Sunday sought to play down reports of infighting in the state unit over the election of state president.

The party did not face problems within the organisation and the party will decide who should be the president, Muraleedharan told a press conference here after a state committee meeting of the party in which a section of the leaders were reported to have levelled  strong criticism against him.

There was no difference of opinion regarding the president’s election. There will be a consensus on this issue, he said.  “Definitely. There is no dispute on this issue,’’he said. Sunday’s state committee meeting did not discuss matters related to the election of the president, since it was not the appropriate forum.  On Sunday, BJP national secretary and in-charge of Kerala P Muralidhar Rao inaugurated the state committee meeting at Chandrashekhar Nair stadium here.  He also met some of the top leaders in person.  In his inaugural address, Muralidhar Rao criticised the UDF government’s policy of minority appeasement.  He also expressed his apprehension of the increasing communalisation of Kerala politics which, he said, is endangering the secular fabric of the state.
