Patient assaults doctor at SMHC Peroorkada

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A doctor has been assaulted by a patient at the State Mental Health Centre at Peroorkada following which the doctors has begun a non-cooperation strike.

Dr. Anoop Anirudhan, who was on duty in the casualty department on Monday, was assaulted at night by a patient who turned violent. The patient was accompanied by relatives.

The doctor was taken to medical college where he was diagnosed to have his eardrum punctured.

Doctors allege that the staff of the mental health care centre did not try to hold the patient back. Due to the controversy that followed the death of the Bihari youth Satnam Singh, the staff seems to be reluctant to handle such cases.

Discussions with the DMO were held in the morning to resolve the issue.
