Professional courses: Students in a fix over admission schedule

While the third list of allotment to  professional degree courses was published by the Office of the Comissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) on Sunday, many students and parents are having a tough time going by the admission schedule.

The date and time of admission of students who received allotment in computer science and engineering, applied electronics, aeronautical engineering and architecture is August 6 at 9 a m. The date of admission is also the same for mechanical production engineering, electrical and electronics, civil engineering and automobile engineering though the time scheduled is 1 p m.

“Those who are in Kannur or even far off have to join the colleges early on Monday which will put them in much difficulty. Many others have been given one or two days time except these options,” said a professional student hailing from Kannur.

The admission dates for other courses including MBBS, BDS and B Tech (agricultural engineering) have been scheduled between August 6 to 8. However, in many other courses (such as Information Technology, biotechnology and food technology among others), the admission dates are August 7 and 8.

There have been complaints regarding the process of fee payment for professional courses also. Many students who got allotment in first phase and remitted fees in the management quota (and who paid Rs 65,000 as fees) had been asked to pay Rs 55,000 again to switch their admissions to private self-financing colleges in second allotment.

The students have to pay Rs 10,000 to the account of the CEE and Rs 55,000 to the self- financing colleges for this. However, going by a stray government order, the CEE had asked the students to pay Rs 55,000 to the colleges on Monday. The candidates who took admission in private self-financing engineering colleges as per the third phase of allotment and who need to cancel their admission and opt out of the allotment process can submit their ‘request for cancellation’ online through their homepage after clicking the KEAM-2012 allotment cancellation link from August 7 to August 9.
