Rumour hits water supply in Paravoor

The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) supply from the water tank in Paravoor was stopped following rumours that the water was poisoned on Sunday night. People gathered around the water tank and forced the KWA officials to cease the supply till the water is scientifically tested.

V D Satheesan MLA has ordered a probe into the incident. Water samples were collected for testing at the government scientific laboratory in Kakkanad.

The KWA officials said that when they had conducted a preliminary test, no poison was detected. But

the water supply will resume only after getting the result from the Kakkanad laboratory.

The police officials said that no person has been hospitalised after consuming the water, and that this might be just a rumour.

“The police received a letter the other day that the Aluva KWA water tank will be targeted by terrorists. The present rumour might be an altered version of this news. There is nothing to worry about,” the police officials said.

District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth said that all kinds of tests were conducted and nothing poisonous was found.

“It is safe to use the water pumped from the pump-house at the Periyar river. The KWA and Health Department will check all the water tanks to ensure that the quality of the water is good,” he said.
