T V Rajesh surrenders, remanded till Aug 27

KANNUR; CPI (M)'s Kalliyasseri MLA and DYFI State Secretary, T V Rajesh, who is named as the 39th accused in the sensational Abdul Shukkor murder case, surrendered before the Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court here Monday. The court remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody (up to August 27) and sent him to Kannur Central Jail. Rajesh had been charged under section 118 of IPC (concealing design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) in connection with the murder of MSF leader Abdul Shukkoor (21) at Keezhara on February 20 last. He surrendered before the JFCM Judge C Mujeeb Rahiman at 1510 hrs, after Kerala High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea in the morning. Special Investigation Team (SIT) had earlier interrogated T V Rajesh on July 30 and had arrested CPI(M) District Secretary P Jayarajan as 38th accused under section 118 of IPC. Jayarajan was lodged in Kannur Central Jail on August 1. After the arrest of Jayarajan, Rajesh had filed petition for his anticipatory bail plea before the High Court. Meanwhile, T V Rajesh's Advocate B P Saseedharan who moved a bail plea today before the JFCM-1, requested the court to consider the accused status as an MLA. Judge C Mujeeb Rahiman said he would get all privileges as an MLA at the Central jail and also added that the court would inform Kerala Assembly Speaker about the remand. The bail application of Rajesh would be considered tomorrow. The court would also issue a notice to Special Public Prosecutor C K Sreedharan for hearing the bail plea on tomorrow.
