Kerala expresses discord on central rules on quarrying

NEW DELHI: The government of Kerala has submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court against the requirement of getting environmental clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest for the functioning of quarries.

Kerala submitted the affidavit as a reply to the court’s query of whether the state is following the eight point direction regarding sand-mining and quarrying.

The state informed the court that some of the terms put forth by the central government are impractical and difficult to adhere to and hence asked for a permission to enforce state laws on those items.
