Pillai dropped in, Ganesh stayed away

KOLLAM: The strain created when Kerala Congress (B) Chairman R Balakrishna Pillai decided to pay a call on a meeting organised in Kottarakkara to welcome Ganesh Kumar prompted the latter to stay away from the scene and express his goodwill towards his supporters via phone.

The meeting was organised by Ganesh’s supporters at Nisa auditorium in Kottarakkara. There was tight police protection installed.

Pillai and his supporters, who knew about Ganesh’s visit, came to the auditorium around 3.30 pm.

The entreaties by the police fell on deaf ears as Pillai, along with his supporters, approached the venue and there ensued a heated exchange of slogans.

A tense situation was created and the police again asked Pillai to return.

Pillai and his supporters went back after delivering a speech in which he affirmed that he would always be with his supporters.

Ganesh’s supporters began the meeting and the minister’s speech was relayed via a cell phone.
