Students injured as school bus rams wall

MALAPPURAM: Over two dozen students sustained injuries when a school bus rammed a compound wall beside the National Highway 17 at Velimukku. The bus belonging to Crescent Residential Higher Secondary School, Velimukku, was carrying students back home when the accident happened. Local people said that the driver lost control of the vehicle following a tyre burst, and the bus crashed into the courtyard of a house through the compound wall. Witnesses said the compound wall saved a major accident. “Had it been in a busy traffic area or a market area, the results would have been more serious,” said P Abdul Majeed, an autorickshaw driver who took part in rescue operations. None of the children was injured seriously. Two of them were admitted to a hospital; but doctors said they had no grave injuries. All the others were released after first aid.
