Shaji N Karun bags ‘Sher E Punjab’ Award

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Noted film director and cinematographer Shaji N Karun has bagged Chandigarh’s International Film Fest’s Sher-E-Punjab Award for his overall contributions to the film field. He bagged the award for portraying through his films the multi-faceted problems faced by India. He is the first director in Kerala to bag this award. The award would be presented to him by Punjab cabinet minister Aadesh Prathap Singh on October 21 at a function in Chandigarh.

Shaji, who bagged many national and international awards for his films Piravi, Kutty Srank, Vanaprastham, Thambu and Swapanam was awarded Padmashree in 201. He was the first chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and was also the executive chairman of International Film Festival of Kerala.

Shaji is gearing up for his next film named ‘Ole’ after Swapanam. The film portrays the life of a minor girl, a victim of rape. M J Radhakrishnan wields the camera.
