More evidences against K Babu, will be questioned tomorrow

KOCHI: The vigilance has obtained more evidences against former excise minister and congress leader K Babu in the disproportionate assets case. They collected the details of the phone dialogues between Babu and his benami Baburam. Baburam had sent a letter seeking withdrawal of the bar bribery case against Babu when ADGP Sankar Reddy was the vigilance director. The vigilance also obtained a copy of the letter. A notice has been sent to Babu asking him to appear tomorrow before the office of the vigilance special cell in Ernakulam for interrogation. The vigilance had questioned him on Monday in the bar case.

A case was registered against Babu after a quick verification was conducted by the vigilance based on the complaints regarding his assets of ten years. Vigilance said an investigation on the phone details proving Babu’s relation with Baburam and Mohan has been completed with the help of the cyber cell. Some more documents have to be examined again and after that will interrogate Baburam and Mohanan.

Meantime, the vigilance may question Babu in the bar bribery case. Primary assessment is that some discrepancies were noticed in his explanation given before the vigilance. It may be examined again and after that he is likely to be questioned again. A probe is on the complaint of industrialist V M Radhakrishnan that the Kerala Bar Hotel Association collected money from bar owners as per the instruction of K Babu for not increasing the license fees of bar hotels.

The vigilance conducted a raid at the house of Babu on September 3rd. A similar raid was conducted at the houses of his daughters, their relatives’ house and at the members of his personal staff.  A flash raid of the vigilance found that his close aides had amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.
