Preliminary probe against Minister Jayarajan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The vigilance Thursday decided to conduct a preliminary probe against Minister E P Jayarajan in connection with the controversy on the appointment of relatives in key posts. The order of the vigilance director regarding it will be released tomorrow. Vigilance director Jacob Thomas decided to conduct a preliminary probe after holding talks with the legal advisors. A special investigating unit-2 of the Thiruvananthapuram unit will probe the complaint against Jayarajan. SP Jayakumar is in charge of the probe. The other members of the team will be decided tomorrow.

The complaint of opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and BJP state general secretary K Surendran has alleged nepotism and misuse of power by Jayarajan in appointing four of his relatives in key posts of public sector organisations. Reports earlier said that there would be a quick verification against Jayarajan on the basis of the complaint.  However, with the order of the preliminary probe, most probably Jayarajan will have to resign his post.

Preliminary probe hints that Jayarajan is found prima facie guilty in appointing his relatives in key posts. In quick verification, usually a probe would be conducted on the allegation and if found true then a FIR would be registered.

Legal advice was given to Jacob Thomas by a team of noted advocates in the morning. A decision for the preliminary probe was taken after the team met the director again in the afternoon.
