KOCHI: 12 persons sustained injuries in an explosion in Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL) at Eloor in Ernakulam. The condition of one is stated to be serious. Ganapathy, an employee of the plant sustained 70% burns and he has been admitted at a private hospital in Edapally. The others have been admitted in different hospitals of the district.
The incident happened Wednesday morning at 11 am. Carbon disulfide brought in the tanker for making insecticides may have led to the explosion. The gas leaked and exploded when it was transferred to the plant. The tyres of the tanker deflated in the accident. Soon the fire force doused the fire.
