Long queues in front of banks in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Huge crowds gathered outside banks to exchange the scrapped notes of Rs 500 and 1000. People thronged to the banks today to withdraw their money.  An unprecedented rush was witnessed even after special counters were opened in the banks. The banks opened before their usual time and arranged facilities. After producing the identity card and affidavit, a person can exchange a maximum amount of Rs 4000. Instead of the scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, new notes of Rs 500 and 2000 were given.

A long queue was witnessed even after banks controlled the rush by giving tokens and form for the affidavit to customers. Bank employees are having a tough time to manage the customers. Many turned to deposit their money in the banks.

Though time was given to exchange and deposit the money scrapped till December 30, many turned up to the banks today itself. As announced by the centre, government hospitals and petrol bunks will accept the scrapped notes. This facility will continue. However, many refused to accept the scrapped notes yesterday as they didn’t have change.

There were many in KSRTC buses with big notes. Many conductors refused to accept the money as they didn’t have change.

Many were happy to have obtained the new currency notes. They were excited to have obtained the new Rs 2000 note. The new 500 rupee note is entirely different from the old one.
