THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have taken into custody Dawood alias Zaheer in connection with the gang rape of a nursing student in Varkala. He was taken into custody from his hiding place in Varkala. Search has been intensified to nab his friends Shaiju, an auto driver and Rasheed.
The police are questioning Zaheer in a secret place. He is being questioned by a team led by rural SP Shefin Ahamed including DySP Chandrashekharan Pillai and circle inspector Vinod. The 19-year-old victim, a resident of Anayara in the capital city, was found abandoned after the gang rape near Varkala Ayanthi railway cross. She was taken to the hospital by the police after informed by the local residents.
The police have taken into custody ‘Chakkara’ the auto KL 16 J 1112 used for the crime. Various opposition parties and organizations have come to the fore protesting the event.
The magistrate has recorded the statement of the victim undergoing treatment at the SAT Hospital.
In the meanwhile, one person has been taken into custody in connection with the rape of an aged woman at Anchuthengu. However, it has not been confirmed whether this person is really behind the incident.
