I'll go one day, not to ask for anything but just to see her, says Sajan's wife

KANNUR: The family of NIR businessman Sajan, who had committed suicide after he failed to get permission for his newly constructed Convention Centre, had come out with serious allegations against Anthoor Municipality chairman P K Shyamala.

On Monday, Sajan’s wife Beena talked to media emotionally.

“Even if Mrs P K Shyama doesn’t give me permission, I’ll go to see her. I’ll go… not to ask anything from her but just to see her…” she told media, with tears welling up in her eyes. Sajan’s Nigeria-based friends Sreekumar Nair and his wife were also with her.

“My husband had told me there was no point in myself going and meeting Shyamala, as a woman. That is why I didn’t go. We conducted only the house-warming ceremony and only a few people took part in it. No relatives were to be seen at the Convention centre. Sajan wished to hold the marriage of his uncle’s children at the Centre. The marriage has been fixed for the next month. But he feared whether he would get the sanction of the Municipality by that time,” Beena said.

Sreekumar Nair, who had worked with Sajan in Nigeria for the past 15 years, said Nigeria is a country that encouraged entrepreneurs. “If he had opened this convention centre in Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari himself would have reached his house to congratulate him.

But Sajan’s dream was to spend his hard-earned money in his own country. In Nigeria also, there is bribery but if we give them a bribe, they will not delay permission,” he said.

How settlement talks between Binoy Balakrishnan’s mother and woman failed

MUMBAI: Mumbai-based advocate K P Sreejith has said that Binoy Balakrishna’s mother held direct talks with the woman and the talks happened in his presence.

“The talks were held at his Mumbai office and Binoy Kodiyeri, his mother Vinodini and the complainant woman were present. Therefore, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s claim that he was unware of the matter is not true. Kodiyeri went by his son’s words and averred that it was a blackmailing case.
The woman, a Bihar native, sent a legal notice to Binoy last December. It was after this Vinodini went to Mumbai for compromise talks with the woman.

Vinodini arrived on April 18 for talks. Ten days after this, Binoy reached Mumbai and held talks with the woman. Producing certain certificates as proof, she demanded a compensation of Rs 5 crore. Her child also was with her then.

Since Vinodini didn’t know Hindi, she could not converse well with the woman. Vinodini also said that the woman’s claim was baseless and her intention was just blackmailing his son for money.
Later when Binoy arrived for talks, he said he was not the father of the child and he won’t be able to give Rs 5 crore. The compromise talk failed at this point of the talks. After this, I called up Kodiyeri and apprised him about the seriousness of the matter but he also echoed his son’s stand.

However, the woman stuck to her stand that the child belonged to Binoy Kodiyeri and she was ready for DNA test.
As soon he was told about the DNA test, he reacted angrily and the compromise talk had to be left midway,” he explained, adding that both parties had produced various documents to substantiate their claims.

Abdullakutty meets Modi, asked to join BJP

NEW DELHI: CPM activist-turned Congress leader A P Abdullakutty, who had earned the wrath of CPM and Congress for praising the development model of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday met Modi in person in New Delhi.

Later, Abdullakutty told media that Modi had asked him to join the BJP. “The prime minister also congratulated me for taking part in a yoga session on International yoga day,” he said.
Abdullakutty, who is now in Delhi, will meet BJP president and minister Amit Shah. But there is no clarity on when he would join the party officially.
Earlier, the State BJP leadership had welcomed Abdullakutty to its fold.
Meanwhile, the party circles clarified that once Abdullakutty reached the party, it will be at his discretion to decide whether he should work in Karnataka or Kerala.

Now, political observers are also keeping an eye on Abdullakutty to see whether he would be contesting any by-election under the BJP ticket. Meanwhile, there are hints that Adbullakutty may contest from Manjeswaram. In that case, it has to be seen whether lotus will bloom in Manjeswaram.

Verdict on Binoy Kodiyer's bail plea to be delivered on Thursday

MUMBAI: A Mumbai court that considered businessman Binoy Kodiyeri’s anticipatory bail plea in a sexual harassment case will deliver the verdict on Thursday.
The verdict on the bail plea in the case filed by a Bihar woman was expected today (Monday) but it had to be postponed as the judge, who had considered the case in Mumbai Dindoshi Sessions court, was on leave.

The bail plea was moved by Binoy on June 21 through his advocate Vinoba Masorkar. Meanwhile, the prosecution’s argument in the court is that Binoy should be taken into custody for interrogation and hence the bail should not be granted to him.

The Mumbai Oshiwara police had filed an FIR against Binoy on June 13 based on the 33-year-old Mumbai dance bar woman’s complaint that he had sexually exploited her from 2009 to 2018, after making marriage promises to her.

Binoy was a frequenter in a Dubai dance bar while she was working there. In the complaint, she says she got acquainted with Binoy at the bar.

‘Shyamala started troubling us as we couldn’t pay Rs 10000 donation’; NRI’s wife fears loss of Rs 55 lakh in ecotourism project

KANNUR: K Vinod and family shut down their business in Dubai and reached hometown to start some business here. But the CPM successfully persuaded him to contest the municipality election from Uruvachal ward.

Later, he left politics and took the contract of a Tourism project implemented by DTPC but the response he got from the Municipality was utterly disappointing.
It was through tender that Vinod got DTPC’s Vellikkeel Eco Tourism project, which was implemented in 2014 at an expense of Rs 50 lakh.

He got the contract after paying Rs 9 lakh as deposit. Though Vellikkeel was in the Thaliparambu municipality, when Anthoor municipality was formed, Vellikkeel came under it.

It was during this time that P K Shyamala allegdley asked for Rs 10000 as donation from Vinod’s wife Sukhil, in connection with a school programme.

But Sukhil told her that she had only Rs 3000 with her as the income from Eco Tourism Park was not sufficient. She added that she had only recently doled out Rs 10,000 to the party.
This irked Shyamala and the party also came to know about this through another person. After this, the Anthoor Municipality started troubling her business.

Municipality officials appeared, demanding closure of kiosks in the park, citing that they didn’t have licence. Despite applying for licence, it was not issued and as a result the park was closed.

In 2017 also Vinod won the tender for the park but the trouble from Municipality continued. Last year, kiosks in the park were destroyed in wind and rain. Now the family say that they couldn’t get the insurance amount as they were not issued building number. They fear that they will lose Rs 55 lakh, invested in the project.

Donald Trump pledges to hit Iran with "major" new sanctions from Monday

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on Saturday pledged to hit Iran with "major" new sanctions as Tehran warned Washington that any attack would see its interests across the Middle East go up in flames.
The war of words heated up after Trump had pulled back from military action against Iran in response to its downing of a US reconnaissance drone.

That incident, which came after a series of attacks on tankers in the congested shipping lanes out of the Gulf that the US has blamed on Iran, exacerbated already tense relations between the two countries.

Iran has denied responsibility for those attacks.

Trump, who spent Saturday huddling with his advisors at Camp David, initially told reporters that he was keen to be Iran's "best friend" -- if the country agreed to renounce nuclear weapons.

"When they agree to that, they're going to have a wealthy country. They're going to be so happy, and I'm going to be their best friend," he told reporters.

Iran has denied seeking a nuclear weapon and says its program is for civilian purposes.

A multinational accord reached by Tehran and world powers in 2015 sought to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief.

But Trump left that agreement more than a year ago and has imposed a robust slate of punitive economic sanctions designed to choke off Iranian oil sales and cripple its economy -- one he now plans to expand.

"We are putting major additional Sanctions on Iran on Monday," tweeted Trump, who has also deployed additional troops to the Middle East.

"I look forward to the day that Sanctions come off Iran, and they become a productive and prosperous nation again - The sooner the better!"

Added Secretary of State Mike Pompeo: "When the Iranian regime decides to forgo violence and meet our diplomacy with diplomacy, it knows how to reach us. Until then, our diplomatic isolation and economic pressure campaign against the regime will intensify."

But lest anyone think he was entirely ruling out military action, Trump tweeted Saturday evening that "I never called the strike against Iran 'BACK,' as people are incorrectly reporting, I just stopped it from going forward at this time!"

'Powder keg'

A top Iranian military official warned Washington against any strikes.

"Firing one bullet towards Iran will set fire to the interests of America and its allies" in the region, armed forces general staff spokesman Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi told the Tasnim news agency.

"If the enemy -- especially America and its allies in the region -- make the military mistake of shooting the powder keg on which America's interests lie, the region will be set on fire," Shekarchi warned.

Following his comments, Iran said it had executed a man, a contractor for the defense ministry's aerospace organization, who had been convicted of spying for the United States.

'Trampling' international law

After the downing Thursday of the Global Hawk surveillance aircraft, Trump said the United States had been "cocked & loaded" to strike Iran.

But at the last minute, he said he pulled back as the response would not have been "proportionate."

The US president subsequently said he did not want war with Iran, but if it came to pass, there would be "obliteration like you've never seen before," according to excerpts of an interview with NBC conducted on Friday.

Tehran insists that the drone violated its airspace -- something Washington denies -- but a commander of the elite Revolutionary Guards, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, told state news agency IRNA that the violation could have been an accident.

"Nonetheless, this was an act of trampling international aviation laws by a spy aircraft," Hajizadeh added.

The Pentagon released a map of the drone's flight path, indicating it avoided Iranian waters, but Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Saturday published maps showing the aircraft inside Iranian territory.

"There can be no doubt about where the vessel was when it was brought down," he wrote on Twitter.

After the drone was downed, Trump secretly authorized US Cyber Command to carry out a retaliatory cyber attack on Iran, The Washington Post reported Saturday.

It crippled computers used to control rocket and missile launches, according to the Post, while Yahoo News said a spying group responsible for tracking ships in the Gulf was targeted.

Iran's foreign ministry said it had summoned the charge d'affaires of the United Arab Emirates, from where the US drone launched, to protest its decision to "put its installations at the disposal of foreign forces for aggression."

The US Federal Aviation Administration has barred American civilian aircraft from the area "until further notice," and several major non-US airlines were altering flight paths to avoid the sensitive Strait of Hormuz.

Security of expats; Changes will be made in emigration rules: V. Muraleedharan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Speaking to a prominent media, V. Muraleedharan, the Deputy Central Minister for Foreign Affairs, said that changes will be made in the emigration rules. He clarified that a bill for the security of expats will be presented in the next parliament meeting and rules will be made so that accurate information regarding expatriates reaches the embassy.

The minister also backed BJP Kerala President’s controversial statement that Sabarimala issue is a golden opportunity. He said that politicians will make use of everything politically and Pillai made the statement to the party activists and not the public.

V. Muraleedharan further added that the CPI (M) should accept the fact that the Communist Party has changed and the public and personal lives of politicians have no differences. He criticized that CPM couldn’t even implement Communist culture in their household.

Binoy has transferred Rs 50,000-Rs 4 lakh to woman’s account: Bank documents

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More proofs that hint at the long-term relationship between CPM leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son Binoy Kodiyeri and the Mumbai-based woman has come out.
In the bank account details of the complainant woman, the name of Binoy Vinodini Balakrishnan has been written in the column for spouse’s name.
The woman is an account holder of Andheri East ICICI branch.

During the period between 2010 and 2015, Binoy transferred amounts ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 4 lakh to the woman’s account, as per the data available with the bank.

The woman had earlier given the statement to the police that Binoy used to send her money.

Left govt used Sabarimala order as opportunity to destroy beliefs: NSS

PERUNNA: The NSS has again criticised the Left government for their stand in Sabarimala women’s entry issue. “The Left government has used SC order on Sabarimala women’s entry to destroy the beliefs of people. Thus what reflected this time in the Lok Sabha election was the sentiments of the people from all religions who loved Lord Ayyappa,” NSS general secretary K Sukumaran Nair said on Sunday.

He was presenting Rs 122.5 crore budget for the period 2019-20 at the NSS headquarters in Perunna. “We told the government to ask for more time to implement the SC order and requested it to file a review petition. All our earnest pleadings fell on deaf ears,” Nair recalled.
Sukumaran Nair said political parties’ attempt to portray election result as the unification of minority votes is done with dubious intensions. The BJP cheated the devotees. Though they were in power in the Centre, they didn’t help the believers. Instead, they used the issue as an election tool
It was only UDF that conducted peaceful demonstrations and took legal steps in favour of beliefs. The fruit of this was the big win they achieved in the Lok Sabha election.

Only in Alappuzha they lost and that was because of the in-fighting in Congress. Now, the only resort in the Sabarimala case is the Supreme Court. The NSS will go to any extent to protect the belief and tradition,” he said.

Crime Branch recreates journey on death of Balabhaskar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The investigating team of the crime branch recreated the journey just before the accident to solve the mystery behind the death of violinist Balabhaskar. They examined whether the person on the driver’s seat wore the seat belt or not. They examined using an Innova car.

Meantime, an expert examination was done on the car involved in the accident. Forensic officials, officials of motor vehicle department and car mechanics examined the car.

The examination conducted found that the person on the driver’s seat was not wearing a seat belt. The person sitting on the left seat in the front had worn the seat belt.

An expert examination was conducted as there were contrary statements on who drove the car. A clarity should be brought on whether it was an intentional accident. Following that, the car in the Mangalore station is being examined.

The accident which claimed the life of Balabhaskar happened on September 24. His daughter Tejaswini had also died in the accident.

Innova overturns three times, but airbags fail to open

LUDHIANA: Toyota Innova Crysta has crashed and the results have shocked its owner. None of the seven airbags opened. The Toyota Innova Crysta was being driven in Ludhiana when it collided with another car and rolled over. The collision appears to have happened at a high speed.

According to the owner of the car it, the other car involved in the collision was a Hyundai that entered the main road from a side road at high speed mindless of the heavy traffic on the main road.
The owner recounted that the car rolled over thrice before finally coming to a halt. Inside the Toyota Innova were the owner at the driver’s seat and two kids who were his nephews. All three occupants had a narrow escape but had no major injuries.

The picture of the smashed car is doing the rounds in social media. The owner of the car is clearly upset as the airbags had faltered and he is planning to move court against the car company. The Toyota Innova in question is a high-end model preferred by ministers, MLAs, MPS and top-level babus.

However, Airbags are the secondary restraint system (SRS) while the primary restraint system is the seatbelt for passengers. “The primary safety system though are the crumple zones built into the chassis and bodywork of the vehicle. Airbags are deployed when its sensors are triggered. These sensors get triggered when an impact is detected and there is a substantial weight on the seats. In this case, the children were seated in the second row of the Toyota Innova Crysta and were strapped in with the seatbelt.
However, the sensors would have detected that there are no occupants sitting on the seats. This is because the force with which an airbag deploys could hurt children more than an accident would. It does look like there could be a fault with the car since the driver's airbag too didn't deploy. The entire left side of the front bumper has been torn off and the headlamp destroyed and there is no way that the airbag sensors weren't triggered. The vehicle even rolled over multiple times, making it all the more apparent that at least the drivers' airbag should have been activated. This being said, we also have to say that the crumple zones and crash protection built into the body of the Toyota Innova did their job brilliantly. The occupants were safe despite having such a bad crash,” said a news report.

Don't isolate Kodiyeri: A K Balan on Binoy issue

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cultural Minister A K Balan has said there is no need to drag CPM into allegations raised against Binoy Kodiyeri. “Don’t isolate Kodiyeri due to this issue. For the wrongs done by party leaders’ sons, it is not right to crucify party leaders,” minister A K Balan responded.
Balan also commented on the controversial cartoon. “The government has not interfered in the decision taken for publishing the cartoon. This is part of the agenda to humiliate the government using a section of government employees. Though Lalitha Kala Akademy is under the government, some employees don’t have that feeling,” he said.
Balan said that the Akademy is governed by law. “The government will watch further actions taken by it in this regard. It was not the government that said religious symbols are used in the bad light. It was said by those who were annoyed by the cartoon. The government ordered probe as allegations were raised against the cartoon,” he said.

Corporation has no role in NRI's suicide; allegations baseless: P K Shyamala

KANNUR: Anthoor Municipality chairperson P K Shyamala has said the municipality had no role in the suicide of an NRI in Anthoor.
“The file related to Parayil Sajan’s house came before the secretary only by May end and his unfortunate death happened during that time,” she said at a press conference on Wednesday.

“Matters related to the sanction for the building were handled by municipality officers and no complaints from Sajan had reached the table of people’s representatives. The delay in issuing ownership certificate was a natural official process as per the law. The allegation that the municipality had harassed Sajan is baseless,” she said.

Shyamala said that the plan for the construction of his convention centre was passed earlier from Thalipparambu Municipality. But the construction was started later after Anthoor municipality came into existence.

“In between, we got a complaint about his building and the work had to be stopped after we sent him the notice. Later, all this issues were resolved and the work was restarted,” she said.

“Sajan had submitted the application for the completion certificate on April 12. Some defects were spotted and suggestions were made for rectifying it. In the meanime, wedding happened in the Convention centre on April 20 and May 20.

I also attended a wedding there. In the coming days also, wedding are scheduled to happen. The Municipality has not blocked anyone of this marriages. The municipality has no vengeance against him,” she explained.

CM termed NRI’s suicide as unfortunate, appropriate action against those responsible

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The opposition UDF Wednesday slammed the government for the suicide of a Nigeria-based Keralite after the government failed to give his business necessary sanctions under ease of doing business rules. Sajan Parayil, 49, who hailed from Kannur hanged himself after an art convention he built by investing Rs 16 crore failed to get clearance from the Anthoor Municipality.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan termed the incident as unfortunate and assured appropriate action.

"At times, there are negative approaches from officials. Let the report come and if anything wrong has been done, appropriate action will be taken against those responsible," Pinarayi said in the assembly on Wednesday.

Seeking leave for an adjournment motion, Congress MLA Sunny Joseph said the ease of doing business which the Left government often speaks about has fallen flat.

Joseph pointed out the Anthoor Muncipality was managed by the CPM and has no member of the opposition. He said the case should rather be treated like a murder.

Speaking to the media, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, who led the entire opposition out of the House after the Speaker disallowed the adjournment motion, claimed that this was the second suicide by a non-resident Keralite businessman and held the CPM responsible for his death.

"Sajan's suicide is because of the CPI-M, which failed to do the needful after he invested his life savings to set up the convention centre," said Chennithala.

Sajan's wife, Beena, in Kannur on Wednesday told the media that her husband was under tremendous stress, especially from the chairperson of the Municipality, who is the CPM's top leader M V Govindan's spouse.

CPM leaders' sons fritter away party donations in dance bars: Woman Congress leader

The other day a Bihar native had come out with sexual harassment allegation against CPM State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son Binoy Kodiyeri.

She gave a complaint to the Mumbai police that Binoy sexually exploited her after promising to marry her.

Cashing in on the big shame that has befallen Kodiyeri’s son and even the party, Congress firebrand Bindu Krishna has come out with sarcastic comments against the party.

“The girl, in her complaint, has said that Binoy got acquainted with her by scattering money all over her body. This is the hard-earned money poor people put aside from their daily wage and donate to the party fund in order to nurture it,” Bindu Krishna alleged on his Facebook post.

“The government that rose to power in the name of women’s protection and women’s safety is providing shelter for accused in sexual harassment charge. Last year, when there was financial fraud complaint against Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son, it was the State government who protected him.

Fraud and sexual harassments are the hallmark of the government. The Left government is ruling the State only to protect ministers, MLAs, party secretary, their children and relatives. It’s a shame.”

Govt in no hurry to implement police commissionerates, says Pinarayi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left government in Kerala on Tuesday said it was yet to take a final decision on setting up metropolitan police commissionerates in the state and it would be implemented only after a consensus emerges on the issue.

Under the metropolitan system, police commissioners will have magisterial powers like District Collectors.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed the state Assembly that the proposal to set up the commissionarates in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi was under consideration, but the LDF government was in no hurry to implement it.

The chief minister's statement comes days after CPI, the second largest coalition partner in the Left front, had reportedly come out against the government's decision to give magisterial powers to police.

When the opposition created a ruckus in the House over the issue, Pinarayi said similar commissionerates had already been functioning in 44 cities across the country and its objective was to strengthen the law and order system in urban areas.

Turning the tables on Congress-led UDF members, Pinarayi said his government had not taken any new decision in this regard and the proposal was the "policy decision" of the previous Oommen Chandy government.

"We are yet to take a final decision on the police commissionerate system. It will be done only after taking into account the peculiar circumstances in Kerala and holding discussions and evolving a consensus," the chief minister said while replying to a notice for an adjournment motion.

Even if the commissionerate system is implemented, the government has no plan to grant police the powers to detain people under the Kerala Anti-Social (Activities) Prevention Act (KAPA), he said.

Seeking notice for the motion, Congress legislator V T Balram said the commissionerate system would give "undue powers" to the police, which would result in the curtailing of basic human rights of common people.

"What will happen if the police get power to carry out inquest in the case of a custodial death...?

What will happen if the officials, notorious for human rights violations, get the enhanced powers,?" he asked. Alleging that the government was setting up the new system out of pressure from the IPS lobby, Balram also said even the Law Department had objected to the decision, stating that Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi did not have the requisite population of 10 lakh each to establish the commissionerates.

Quoting official records, he said police personnel were involved in 23 murders during the tenure of the present government and over 60 officers were accused of custodial torture.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said the Congress government had decided not to establish the commissionerate system, considering the opinions of human right activists and the then opposition leader V S Achuthanandan.

The opposition members later staged a walkout as Speaker, P Sreeramakrishnan denied permission for the adjournment motion based on the reply of the Chief Minister.

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has not responded on the incident so far. Meantime, CPM central leadership has stated that they will not intervene in the case. As the issue is not connected with the party, he should face it on his own. Party leaders have not intervened in it. If intervened, then action will be taken at the party level. Central leadership said they will communicate with the state leadership on it.

KOCHI: The Kerala police will register a case against the Bihar native who filed a sexual abuse complaint against Binoy Kodiyeri, son of Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Binoy handed over the letter threatening him, to the police. As the Mumbai police registered the case, the Kerala police too will be taking legal steps.

The case is on the woman’s complaint that she was sexually abused for years. Based on her complaint, the Oshiwara police filed the FIR on June 13. He used to come frequently from Dubai. In 2015 he informed that his business was at a loss and that he can’t send any more money again. He never attended her calls later.

In 2018, she came to know that he was already married and has two children. When she asked about it, he was not able to give a definite answer. He later threatened her. A case was charged against him under sections 376, 376 (2) (rape) 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation). A probe has started on the complaint, said senior inspector Shailesh Pasalwad.

Modi has courage, should bring ordinance to construct Ram temple: Uddhav Thackeray

AYODHYA (UP): Government should bring an ordinance to construct Ram temple, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday in Ayodhya, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the courage to do so and there would be no one to stop it.

Thackeray offered prayers at the makeshift Ram Lalla temple along with his son Aditya and 18 newly-elected lawmakers of his party. The Shiv Sena has said the visit was to fulfil the promise Thackeray made last November to come to Ayodhya again after the elections.

"The case is in the court for many years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has the courage. If government takes the decision, there is no one to stop it. Not only Shiv Sena, Hindus of the whole world are with this," Uddhav said, while addressing a press conference after his visit to the Ram Lalla (or infant Ram) temple.

"The government should bring an ordinance for construction of Ram temple. The issue concerns all Hindus and the temple has to be constructed at the earliest," he said, raising the slogan of "kanoon banao, mandir banao (formulate law and construct temple)".

Maharashtra will be going to polls later this year and the visit is being seen as an attempt by the Shiv Sena to put pressure on ally BJP on the Ram temple issue. But Sena has maintained that Thackeray's visit should not be seen through the electoral lens.

"For us Ram temple is matter of faith and not politics," Thackeray said.

The title suit over the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site is being heard by the Supreme Court.

Govt’s stand is contrary to ideas of Left Front, VS warns CM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Government’s stand giving police magisterial powers is against the ideas of the Left Front, said administrative reforms commission chief V S Achuthanandan. People will lose confidence if flaws are seen in the ideas. The government as well as the chief minister should be vigilant, letter to the chief minister mentioned.

A serious re-consideration is needed on giving magisterial power to the police, government’s intervention in the cartoon award announced by Lalithakal Academy and serious scrutiny is needed in the case of land encroachments in Kunnathunadu.

The actions that can be interpreted as deviating from the Left's position will lead to public disbelief. Freedom of expression is also implicated in human rights violations. The Left's stance is clear when it comes to land filling. He said the errors in such matters would lose the confidence of the people. The move to make mandatory aadhar for land registration should be shelved, VS requested revenue minister.
