Power tariff hiked in state, not applicable for BPL category

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Power tariff for domestic consumers in the state will go up by 6.8%. Those in the BPL list has been exempted from the hike. With the increase in the tariff, the state government will get an extra income of Rs 902 crore. The lowest category of domestic consumers, using less than 40 units of energy has been exempted from the hike.

There will be an increase of Rs 18 for those using upto 50 units monthly and Rs 42 upto 100 units. The hike comes into effect from today.

The hike is for three years till 2022. Power tariff was last hiked in 2017.
