Heavy rain; Red alert issued in three districts while Orange alert in five districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Meteorological Department has issued Red alerts and Orange alerts in several districts of the state for the coming days. According to the department, the state will continue to receive heavy rains till Thursday.

While Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts have been issued Red alert, Orange alert has been announced for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kasargod. It has also informed that there will be strong winds blowing at the speed of over 50kmph and hence fishermen have been warned against going into the sea.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority warned that there are chances of landslides in the hilly areas. Earlier, the shutters of Peruvannamoozhi dam were raised following heavy rain. Two relief camps have been set up in Alappuzha due to heavy rainfall at the coastal villages of Arattupuzha and Kaattoor.
