KOCHI: Public Works Minister G Sudhakaran revealed the details of the report of DMRC advisor E Sreedharan after an inspection was conducted on the newly constructed Palarivattom flyover which is at a risk following defects in the construction. The report has mentioned that the flyover should be opened for transportation only after the bridge is completely rehabilitated. Meantime, the minister informed the assembly that a decision on whether the bridge should be demolished and built a new one or not can be taken only after holding talks with the concerned. Apart from E Sreedharan, Chennai IIT had also conducted a study on the fragility of the flyover. The government will take a crucial decision only after examining these two reports, the minister told the assembly.

The government decided for maintenance work after cracks were detected on the newly constructed Palarivattom flyover. The government wanted an expert examination after an inspection by government engineers suspected feebleness. An inspection by Chennai IIT found that enough cement was not used in the construction. The construction started during the tenure of the previous government. The government demanded vigilance to investigate the corruption in the construction of the bridge and brought the construction company under the purview of investigation.
