I don’t want to show pride by sitting in any chair, says Thiruvanchoor

KOTTAYAM: I am not a person who wants to show pride by sitting in any chair, said Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. He said there was some confusion in arranging seats for two ministers at the valedictory function of the national games. Thiruvanchoor chose to sit on the second row when seats for Ministers V S Sivakumar and A P Anil Kumar were arranged there.

Seats were arranged for opposition leader and speaker on the front row. Not arranging seats for the two ministers is a lapse, said Thiruvanchoor. Some trouble makers were produced to spoil the games; they left the place after doing their duty, he said.

Complaint only against Lalisom, says Thiruvanchoor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a complaint only against Lalisom performed at the inaugural function of the national games, said Sports Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.

There were no criticisms against the programmes performed just before Lalism, the minister said. Talking to the media, he said there were widespread criticisms against Lalisom in social medias.

Thiruvanchoor said the criticisms against Lalisom have pained the actor. I had a telephonic conversation with him. He behaved politely even after such insult and pain. The minister requested to stop haunting the actor.

There is a hidden agenda behind the allegations in connection with the games. Those against the games had sent a letter to the Indian Olympic Association. They also alleged that the construction work of the stadium is incomplete. Mohanlal’s programme was fixed as per the direction of the games committee. The government first decided to call A R Rehman, but the remuneration asked was too high and so we canceled the idea. Those in the secretariat of the national games have officials appointed by the previous government. Their political motive should be studied.

Thiruvanchoor said the games are moving forward flawlessly. I have directed to conduct the valedictory function in a fair and smooth manner. The function will be conducted with minimum amount. The state is conducting the games less than Rs 31 crores of Jharkhand Games in 2011.

I have not noticed chief secretary’s criticisms on the games. If there is any, I will reply for that.

Sachin had informed earlier his inconvenience to attend the closing ceremony of the games.

Ready to face any investigation, says Thiruvanchoor

KOTTAYAM: I know Abhilash Muraleedharan, an industrialist in Gujarat, for the past 12 years and ready to face any kind of investigation on the allegations levelled, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor said while talking to the media.

The minister said, “I never said that I don’t know Abhilash. No case exists against his company. My son Arjun was appointed as the company director due to his proficiency skill and qualification. Arjun doesn’t have any investment in the company. I paid the bill for the lunch had at the Mascot Hotel.”

Thiruvanchoor said the allegations are levelled against me and my son in order to divert the controversy of P C George attending ‘Run for Unity’, a function organised by Narenran Modi. Those jealous of me and my family are behind the allegations.

The minister said P C George had levelled allegations against Kerala Congress (M) chairman K M Mani. George had made derogatory comments against Mani. Let him produce the evidence if he has any in the court.

I just meant Mullappally’s statement that ‘big sharks’ will be trapped.

Talking to reporters here, he said that he has sent a letter to Mullappally detailing everything.  If Mullappally thinks that a conspiracy has been hatched in the T P murder case, then he should say it openly.Only then action can be taken, he said.

Thiruvanchoor said, “I don’t want to respond anything in the solar case. The chief minister had made everything clear yesterday. The team has so far not decided about it and he will not be questioned in the name of unruly scenes.

Chennithala’s phone not tapped, says Thiruvanchoor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The phone tapping allegation of KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala witnessed some noisy scenes on the first day of the Kerala Assembly session which started Monday. The ruling and opposition members created uproar on the issue during question hour. T V Rajesh of the opposition made a statement on it.

The logjam started when the ruling members stood up and opposed to Rajesh’s statement that Chennithala had told NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair that his phone has been tapped.

Elamaram Kareem came up with another allegation when Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan told the assembly that nobody’s phone has been tapped. Kareem alleged that the police are tapping phones with the help of some machines at a rented house in Peroorkada. Noisy scenes were witnessed when Kareem said that nobody is aware why the house was rented and no boards are also seen.

Thiruvanchoor while replying said such machines are banned and nothing of that sort has happened. Chennithala has not lodged a complaint either to the minister or to the police. Phones of political leaders or opponents have not been tapped and this is not the policy of the UDF Government, he said.  As the time of the question hour was over, the assembly proceeded to the next procedure.

Narath case to be referred to NIA, says Thiruvanchoor

KASARGOD: Kerala government has decided to refer to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) the case connected with seizure of country bombs and weapons from a training camp conducted by radical outfit Popular Front of India at Narath in Kannur district.

The case was being referred to the NIA in view of the case's inter-state links, state home minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan told reporters at Kanhangad near Kasargod on Friday.

The investigation by state police into last month's incident had come across evidence that foreign funds had been transferred to the bank account of one of the accused in the case, police sources said.

An examination of the bank account of one of those arrested in the case found that an amount of Rs 70 lakh from an account in Dubai had been received by him and it had been withdrawn by the accused, sources said.

Information received from the phone details of the same accused found that he had made contacts with a relative of an accused taken into custody in connection with the April 17 Bangalore blast case, the sources said.

A total of 21 activists of the PFI had been arrested in connection with the case and all of them were charged under the Unlawful Activities Preventions Act.

Police suspect that the weapons were collected and training camps organised for execution of some operation elsewhere in the State or some other part of the country. Literature seized from the house of an accused showed that the intention was to create Hindu-Muslim rift, the sources said.

The PFI leaders, however, refuted the allegations against the outfit holding that the case was fabricated by police and sought an independent inquiry into it.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Suryanelli case cannot be reinvestigated, said Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. Briefing reporters at a press meet, he said there is no condition for it in the Indian law.

The court had earlier examined what the Suryanelli victim said. The Left government did not press for reinvestigation as they knew that there were no chances for it. The court had twice rejected the plea seeking reinvestigation. A reinvestigation will not be conducted, he said.

The act of the opposition shouting slogans against the speaker and trying to barge into the seat of the speaker is a challenge to democracy, said Thiruvanchoor.

Thiruvanchoor told reporters that the government will look into the legal aspects in this matter and then take up the issue. If we find out that there is an excessive pressure on the investigating official, then it will be proceeded with.

North zone vigilance SP submitted a report claiming that Kerala Information Commissioner K Natarajan had tried to influence a probe to protect VS in the case.  Natarajan used to continuously phone DySP V G Kunju to persuade him to see that VS is not included in the list of accused in the case.

Natarajan, a former Indian Police Service officer, was appointed an information commissioner when VS was the chief minister.
Natarajan, according to reports, has been regularly speaking to the vigilance official after March this year and the conversation that was telecast on the TV channels here is believed to have taken place last month.

Asked to react to the news, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said it would be improper for him to make any comment on this without studying in detail.

Meanwhile, the vigilance has already launched an enquiry into the whole episode after the investigating official reported the matter to his higher-ups.
