Wednesday, December 21, 2011: Congress Party president Sonia Gandhi has stressed the importance of maintaining cordial ties between Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the wake of the Mullaperiyar issue controversy.
Speaking to the reporters here on Wednesday, Sonia opined that the Central government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have taken necessary steps to amicably resolve the issue.
Sonia reminded people in Kerala, Tamil Nadu that peace should be maintained and they should not be swayed by passions. Kerala has been pressing for twin demands: decreasing the storage capacity of the Mullaperiyar dam to below 136 feet with immediate effect and constructing a new dam within a stipulated time frame.
