X’mas celebrated with traditional fervour across Kerala

Sunday, December 25, 2011: Christians in Kerala celebrated Christmas with traditional fervour, devotion and gaiety to mark the birth of Jesus Christ. Even their friends from other religions joined the festivities.
The state went into the Christmas mood with the commencement of December as shops began exhibiting Christmas wares like stars and crib decorations. The mood entered its festive phase soon after schools and colleges closed for the Christmas vacation. Youngsters organised carol groups with one of them dressed up as Santa Claus and went on house visits singing Christmas carols to spread the message of the festival.
The mood at households was manifest with stars and cribs. Churches wore a festive look on Christmas Eve and the faithful dressed in their best began arriving at churches by 11 p.m. for the traditional midnight mass. After the hour-long rituals, friends and relatives began exchanging Christmas greetings.
Many Christian families invited their close friends from other religions for the Christmas lunch. The Christmas mood will now be carried into the new year celebrations.
