NSS against management panels in aided schools

KOTTAYAM: Coming out heavily against the school management committees stipulated in the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, the Nair Service Society (NSS) condemned the decision to make it mandatory for educational institutions run by majority communities. NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair in a statement termed it as a clear case of discrimination.
“According to the Act, management committees should be formed for the day-to-day administration of aided schools. But it has become evident that for minority institutions, there would be no need of such a committee and an advisory committee would do. The management committees will have far-reaching authority while the advisory committees will only have limited role in the school administration,” he said.
The NSS had made its point clear to the Union Government that there should be no distinction between majority and minority institutions and advisory committees will be sufficient for both the groups. A memorandum in this regard had been submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal, then Leader of Opposition Ooommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, Sukumaran Nair said.
The NSS had demanded that social justice should get priority and the state government should convince the Union Government about the functioning of aided educational institutions in the state and make sure that a reasonable solution is found.
“The state government has promised to convince the NSS stand to the Union government. Imposing the decision on Hindu communities alone, who are already minorities in running educational institutions, will be a betrayal and discrimination,” Sumumaran Nair said.
