Court slams Govt over Thachankary’s prosecution


Thursday, April 26, 2012: The Thrissur Vigilance Court on Thursday came down heavily on the state government in connection with the alleged delay in prosecuting IG, Tomin J Thachankary.
The Court observed this while hearing a petition filed against the delay in Thachankary’s prosecution. The Court also sought government’s explanation for the delay in seeking the Centre’s permission for prosecuting Thachankary.
The government has been directed to submit a detailed report regarding the same.
Thachankary had faced a Vigilance inquiry, criminal cases and disciplinary actions in his career.The Vigilance case was launched on charges of “amassing wealth of Rs.1 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income and other allegations.” The Vigilance inquiry was still pending.
It was also revealed that the IPS officer had “illegally imported electronic goods from Singapore. There were other allegations against the 1st respondent like misuse of official vehicle, publishing photograph in uniform unauthorisedly, frequent foreign visits, possession of multiple passports as also registering of false cases against certain persons and lock-up torture”.
