Festivities begin for Thrissur Pooram
Wednesday, April 25, 2012: The week-long festivities culminating in the Thrissur Pooram began on Wednesday with the hoisting of the ceremonial flag by the two participating Devaswoms of Paramekkavu and Tiruvambadi.
Besides the two major temples, eight other smaller temples of Ayyanthole, Naithilakkavu, Choorakkattukavu, Lalur, Kanimangalam, Panamukkampilly, Chembukkavu and Karumukku, hoisted the flag too, signalling the start of the festival that will culminate in the grandeur of Pooram on May 1, with a magnificent fireworks display.
The caparisons and the alavattams and venchamarams that sway to the rhythm of the percussion orchestra during the festival will be put on public display at the Agrasala by the Paramekkavu Devaswom on April 29 and 30 and at the CMS school by the Tiruvambadi Devaswom on April 30.
