Arun Kumar’s Ph.D registration cancelled

Tuesday, 13 December 2011: The Kerala University’s syndication meet approve the recommendation of the syndicate sub panel to cancel the Ph.D registration of Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan’s son, VA Arun Kumar.
Most probably, his Ph.D registration may be cancelled. The recommendation was included as the last agenda in the syndicate meet convened here Tuesday morning. A decision on it will be taken later today.
The sub panel found that he attained Ph.D violating eligibility rules. The standing committee in charge of research affairs too were of the same opinion.
The university had invited applications for PhD registration on December 8, 2005. Those who had seven years of teaching experience were eligible to get admission without an entrance examination. Arun Kumar, who produced certificates for the required teaching experience, was admitted in November 2006.
Later, the media reported that there were irregularities in the admission. Following this, the Syndicate cancelled the registration and a showcause notice was issued to Arun Kumar.
