Wednesday, December 21, 2011: Peerumade MLA and Communist Party of India (CPI) leader E.S. Bijimol today wrote an open letter to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in connection with the Mullaperiyar dam issue which has seen Kerala and Tamil Nadu at loggerheads.
In the letter Bijimol has sought an immediate and amicable resolution to the issue citing the imminent danger posed by the 116-year-old structure upon the lives of 40 lakh people.
Kerala has been pressing for twin demands: decreasing the storage capacity of the Mullaperiyar dam to below 136 feet with immediate effect and constructing a new dam within a stipulated time frame.
