'Higher Education in disarray under UDF rule'


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Coming down heavily on the Muslim League for communalising the education sector, Opposition Leader V S Achuthananadan has alleged that   UDF Government has destroyed the higher education sector.
“The autonomous character of the universities has been destroyed. Ordinances have been issued to seize the Syndicates. It is undemocratic,“ said V S  while inaugurating a Rajbhavan march and dharna, organised under the aegis of the Higher Education Protection Council here on Thursday. He said that the Muslim League was filling all strategic posts with thier people. Their eligibility is being League men. He said that there were plans to appoint a school teacher as Vice-Chancellor of Calicut University. It is against the criteria set by the UGC, he said.
V S said that 11 out of 12 members of the Curriculum Committee were members of the Muslim League. Efforts are going on to sabotage even the syllabus, he said.  Higher Education Protection Council chairman Ninan Koshy presided over the dharna. Former Education Minister M A Baby MLA, N K Premachandran and Kadannappally Ramachandran spoke.
