Jayalalithaa adopting double standards, alleges CM

Thursday, December 22, 2011: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today expressed displeasure over Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the Mullaperiyar dam issue which has seen Kerala and TN at loggerheads.
Addressing the public after inaugurating the mass interaction programme in Alappuzha on Thursday, CM alleged that Jayalalithaa who was opposing the Koodankulam Nuclear Power plant in TN was adopting double standards.
In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, she expressed her “shock” over NDMA under his chairmanship constituting a team of experts to formulate a Contingency Response Plan including “inundation and submergence models” in the event of possible scenarios like earthquakes and floods.
“This is nothing but succumbing to the subterfuge of the government of Kerala and to present a fait accompli to the Supreme Court and the Empowered Committee constituted by it,” she said.
