Perumbavoor killing: Accused granted bail

Thursday, December 08, 2011: The Kerala High Court today granted bail to Satheesh-Congress MP K Sudhakaran’s gunman and the prime accused in a case in which a 37-year-old man was beaten to death in Perumbavoor, alleging that he was a pickpocket.
The deceased, Reghu, was brutally beaten to death by three persons alleging that he had stolen a bag containing Rs 19,000 while travelling in the Thrissur- Chadamangalam KSRTC bus.
Following the brutal assault Reghu collapsed and died on the spot. Reghu’s family informed that the money was not stolen. The police have registered a case against the accused under charges of murder.

The money found with Reghu, who died after being brutally assaulted Monday night was his own. Reghu, who was accused of picking the pocket of another passenger inside a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus, was beaten to death at Perumbavoor near here Monday night.
Reghu’s friend Balan said that he helped him to get Rs 19,000 by pledging Reghu’s own ring at a bank. The bank authorities have also confirmed it. The relatives are also of the opinion that though Reghu had financial difficulties, he will not steal money.
The incident happened when Reghu was travelling in the Thrissur-Chadamangalam KSRTC bus. Reghu who was beaten up inside the bus was assaulted again when he got down at Perumbavoor. He collapsed and died before being rushed to hospital.
A postmortem report said Reghu died of brain haemorrhage.
Police said two persons — Satheesan and Santosh whose purse was stolen — have been taken into custody. Satheeshan is a civil police officer and the gunman of Congress MP K. Sudhakaran.
