TDB says Rahul does not have tantri rights

Wdenesday, 14 December 2011: Travancore Devaswom Board president advocate M Rajagopalan Nair said that Kandarau Maheswarar’s grandchild Rahul Easwar does not have any right to the tantri’s post and without permission he cannot enter the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala temple.
Anybody whom the tantri names cannot enter the Sreekovil. The tantri had earlier attempted to bring his assistant into the temple. But the Board did not comply with his request. Though the tantri had moved the HC in this connection, the court upheld the Devaswom Board’s decision, said the president. He also added that the tantri and Rahul are misleading the people by not trying to understand the court rules.
Earlier Reports:-
Eswar, son of senior thanthri Kandararu Maheswaru’s daughter, sought to barge into the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine during the noon pooja, but his attemped was thwarted by the officials.
Temple Executive Officer Sathish Kumar said as per the shrine’s age-old customs only the Thanthri, his sons or other descendants by male lineage were allowed to perform rituals in the inner chamber of the shrine, where the idol of Lord Ayyappa is installed.
Eswar, however, held that the officials had no right to prevent him as it was for the senior Thanthri to take a decision on matters pertaining to rituals and customs of the shrine. Though Maheswaru also endorsed Eswar’s stand, the temple officials stuck to their position that he would not be allowed to conduct poojas.
The male members of Thazhamon family are traditionally the ‘thanthris’ of the Sabarimala temple where the annual ‘mandala pooja’ season is now on.
