'Party Congress will be a historic event'


KOZHIKODE: The 20th CPM Party Congress to be held here from April 4 to 9 has assumed a historic significance as it will be discussing the possibilities of adopting an ideological resolution apart from the discussion on the political resolution and the organisation report, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said.
Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Pinarayi Vijayan said: “Earlier, the party adopted such ideological resolutions in the seventh party congress in 1968 and 14th party congress in 1992. While the former was adopted after the Burdwan plenum, the disintegration of the Soviet Union and setback of socialist countries in Europe led to the adoption of the second ideological resolution in 1992 clarifying the party’s stance on the issues.Now, the party has drafted an ideological resolution to define the stance the party would uphold in the coming years based on the recent politicaldevelopments across the world.”
The CPM leader said that arrangements for the 20th edition of the event, to be held for the fourth time in the state, was almost complete.
As many as 734 delegates, 70 observers and 11 veterans will take part in the Party Congress.
The delegate conference will begin at the Surjit-Jyoti Basu Nagar arranged at the Tagore Hall on April 4 at 9.30 am.
The public conference will be held on Kozhikode beach on April 9 but the organising committee has avoided a public march.
However, there would be red volunteer march comprising 25,000 comrades as part of the concluding ceremony.
The flag march from Alappuzha, the flag post march from Kayyur and the torch rally from Onchiyam will meet on the Kozhikode Beach on April 3 at 5 p.m.
 While CPM secretary Pinarayi Vijayan will hoist the flag on the Kozhikode Beach at 6 pm on the day, CPM general secretary Prakash Karat will light the torch at the Tagore Hall at 7 pm.
